Theater Kikker

Theatre Kikker in the center of Utrecht specializes in contemporary theater, modern dance and youth theater. It all started in 1972 when members of the Utrecht Student Corps started a tiny theater at the top of their building at Janskerkhof.

The name seems to have to do with a hazing ritual called "frogs". You get down on your knees, hit the ground with your hands, jump up again and call, with your hands above your head, a letter or number. You repeat this until you have "frogged" a certain word, for example. That is why the theater was called "Tejater Kikker" (“Theatre Frog”).

After about four years, the theatre received a small subsidy from the municipality and in 1980 it moved to the Ganzenmarkt. Nowadays you can see a wide range of excellent performances here in the small hall or the new large hall with 172 seats. So book a ticket and take a seat!
