Together, we are Utrecht. And we have been for 900 years.
Thank you, Utrecht!
This year, we celebrated the 900th birthday of our beloved city. For nine centuries, people have come to Utrecht from all corners of the world, and together we make the city what it is. A city where we reach out to connect, a city where we do things together, a city without walls. Indeed, the theme ‘City Without Walls’ marked the 900th anniversary of Utrecht acquiring city rights. What started on 2 June 2022 with lots of cake and a performance by Kensington on the Dom Tower, ended on 11 November 2022 with a huge St Martin Parade and a surprising, atmospheric route through the city centre…. and much more.
It was a birthday celebration to cherish – forever! Some 300 activities, festivals, performances, artworks, parties and events spread across all 10 districts. A celebration for, by and with all Utrecht residents. Because together, we are Utrecht!
