Oude Hortus botanical gardens
Tucked away in Utrecht's city center lies the former botanical garden of Utrecht University. In this green oasis, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden is 300 years old and still a true gem. Stroll past ancient trees like the impressive Ginkgo biloba, admire unique flowering plants, and be amazed by the fragrant pink oak tree or the fruits of the quince tree.
In the cozy cottage garden, ponds, steps, and garden animals create a landscape teeming with life. The historic greenhouses are filled with unique tropical plants, such as the impressive Victoria amazonica, and in the Regius Garden, you'll find all sorts of plants with medicinal properties.
For a delicious cup of coffee or a tasty lunch, visit the Museum Café in the former Orangery. From the café, you have a beautiful view of the historic garden. The adjacent University Museum Utrecht is also definitely worth a visit!
The Oude Hortus is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission to the garden is free for Museum Card holders and €5 for individual visits. More visitor information can be found on: https://umu.nl/for-english-speaking-visitors/
