The musical couture dress by Maartje Dijkstra and Beorn Lebenstedt

Inspired by the baroque majestic Clay clock from 1738 from the collection of Museum Speelklok, fashion designer Maartje Dijkstra together with composer Beorn Lebenstedt created a musical couture dress in recent months: AU-2-MATERIA. This was partly made possible by a crowdfunding campaign.

The installation consists of a dazzling gold dress and a transparent overdress. This controls a ribbon with a musical composition by Beorn Lebenstedt. The ribbon moves around the dress like a barrel organ book. Unique to Maartje's work is that the fabric of the dress was printed by hand with a 3D pen, an innovative, labor-intensive and expensive process.

Maartje Dijkstra studied at the fashion department of ArEZ. After an internship at fashion house Alexander McQueen, she founded her own label. In addition to exhibitions and collaborations with artists such as Daan Roosegaarde, her couture attracted the attention of international artists such as Lady Gaga.
