St. Augustine's Church

This church was the successor of an Augustinian hideout church that was founded in Jerusalem Street in 1636. Today the church is in use by the Sint-Salvator parish in Utrecht.

The Saint Augustine Church is notable for its temple front with the enormous Doric columns on the canal side, crowned by a pediment and an airy turret (40 m high). Behind it is the hall church, which is spanned by a stucco wooden barrel vault. The main altar was made in 1857 by Prosper Venneman from Ghent. The organ dates from 1844 and was built by the Utrecht organ builder H.D. Lindsen. Four bells hang in the turret.
